HOSPITAL SERVICE LECTURES

Learn fundamental skills of hospital management services

For many years, the medical curriculum has focused most of its emphasis on the development of clinical skills and the understanding of disease processes. While critical thinking and clinical skills are essential for the successful practice of medicine, many educational programs have neglected areas that are critically important as medical students prepare for entering clinical rotations and residency. Learning the necessary skills needed for practicing medicine independently is not limited to the understanding of disease, but rather a combination of aspects and operational systems are seldom taught in Medical School and residency. Interestingly, the Accreditation Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) requires residents to conduct research and scholarly activities (i.e case reports, systematic reviews, quality improvement projects, professional development all of which are not typically learned in medical school. Also, many Residency Program Directors are evaluating prospective candidates based on their scholarly productivity. In other words, how many publications, abstracts, or presentations the candidate has completed and published. To fill this educational gap, MD Telehealth Institute has designed a Lecture Series with the overarching goal of exposing students to Special Topics in Medicine. The learners will be able to develop practical and fundamental skills in conducting research, understanding business aspects of medicine, quality and process improvement and to use the scholarship for their professional development in becoming independent clinicians and leaders in the field of medicine. This intent is achieved through small group discussions and active learning of selected topics, text readings, and lectures.
